What Kemi is

Kemi is a safety-first platform that gives people access to public criminal and legal records before a date, a hire, or a new relationship. We are currently in a waitlist phase and are not yet processing background checks.

What we collect during the waitlist

When you join our waitlist, we collect:

• Your email address - so we can notify you when Kemi launches in your country.
• Your country - determined by which landing page you signed up from.
• UTM parameters - if you arrived via an ad, we store which campaign brought you (e.g. utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign). This helps us understand which channels work. It does not identify you personally.
• Timestamp - when you joined.

That is everything. We do not collect your name, phone number, location, IP address, or any other personal data during the waitlist phase.

What we do NOT do

• We do not sell your email to anyone. Ever.
• We do not share your email with third parties for marketing.
• We do not show ads.
• We do not track you across other websites.
• We do not use your email for anything other than Kemi launch notifications.

How we store your data

Your email is stored securely via Resend (our email service) and our hosting provider Netlify. Both services maintain industry-standard security practices including encryption at rest and in transit.

Analytics

We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how people use our landing pages (e.g. which pages are visited, how long people stay). We do not use Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel during the waitlist phase. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy.

Cookies

We do not use cookies during the waitlist phase. When we launch the full product, we will update this policy with details about any cookies used.

Your rights

You can:

• Unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
• Request deletion of your data by emailing us at the address below.
• Request a copy of all data we hold about you.

If you are in the UK, EU, India, or South Africa, you have additional rights under your local data protection laws (UK GDPR, GDPR, DPDP Act, POPIA respectively). We respect all of them.

When Kemi launches

When we launch the full product, this privacy policy will be updated to cover how we handle search data, safety ratings, and payment information. The core principles will remain the same: we show what protects, we skip what doesn't, and your searches are anonymous by default.
